Stieglitz and Curtis

Two important photographers of the Pictorialism Era are Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Curtis.

Stieglitz was one of the primary forces behind recognizing photography as a fine art, and not just a craft. He founded an important gallery in New York City that showed the latest trends in fine art, as well as in photography. He later founded the photography section of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. He started out doing Pictorialism, and later did "Straight" photography.
